Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) of the Maldives is looking into a complaint regarding Speaker and Former President Mohamed Nasheed.
The speaker is accused of undertaking a trip to meet activists of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) during an official trip, on the expenses of the People’s Majlis,
ACC’s President Mariyam Shiuna has confirmed that such a case involving the officer has been submitted to the commission and that details will be shared at a later date.
Reports have it that Nasheed met with activists of the main ruling party during his trip to attend the Southern Conference 2019, a councilors conference for southern-atolls.
The People’s Majlis has refuted these claims.
Media and Communications Director at the parliament, Hassan Ziyau revealed that Nasheed embarked on the trip as the speaker of parliament and he travelled to southernmost Addu and Fuvahmulah cities on his own expenses.
While the corruption watchdog has revealed that the case will be investigated, cases were also lodged against incumbent President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and Minister of Defense and National Security, Mariya Ahmed Didi earlier.
