Japan to donate equipment for counter-terrorism efforts
 
The Japanese government also extended a grant of USD four million under non-project grant assistance.
 
The equipment is being donated under the Exchanges of Notes signed in October 2019
 
The handover ceremony is scheduled for 10:30 pm on Thursday.

The government of Japan and the government of Maldives is set to exchange the list of equipment for counter-terrorism efforts at a special ceremony on Thursday.

The handover ceremony, scheduled for 10:30am, will be attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid, Maldives Ambassador to Japan Ibrahim Uvais and Japanese Ambassador to Maldives Keiko Yanai.

The equipment is being donated under the Exchanges of Notes signed between the two governments in October 2019 under non-project grant assistance.

The Japanese government also extended a grant of 500 million Japanese Yen (over USD four million) for the promotion of economic and social development of the Maldives in October.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed that the grant will be applied in counter-terrorism efforts.
