The financial statements of the incumbent government’s political appointees are to be publicized next year.

Chief Communications Strategist at the President’s Office, Ibrahim Hood, revealed this via Twitter on Wednesday, after a user reminded him of the promise to publicize the financial statements of cabinet ministers “every year.” The user noted that this was last done in 2018.

Responding to the tweet, Hood said that the asset declaration “of political appointees for the past year will be made public before the end of the first quarter of 2020.”

Back in January, the President’s Office publicized the financial statements of cabinet ministers and senior office staff, including President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and Vice President Faisal Naseem. Publicizing the financial statements of senior government officials within the first 100-days is a campaign pledge of the incumbent president.

Article 138 of the Maldives Constitution states that “every member of the Cabinet shall annually submit to the Auditor General a statement of all property and monies owned by him, business interests and all assets and liabilities.”
