Design and project management consultancy for development in southernmost Addu City contracted by the Ministry of National Planning and Infrastructure.

The ministry revealed that the entire process of land reclamation in southernmost Addu City was contracted to be finished within three years and three months, or 1,221 days, and is a USD seven million contract.

The project of land reclamation and road development in Addu, one of the largest cities in Maldives, was contracted with a joint venture between L&T Infrastructure Engineering Limited and Lea Associates South Asia Private Limited, two Indian companies, on Thursday.

Land reclamation, road development and the planting of a storm water drainage system are included under the scope of the project.

Under the project, a total of 228 hectares of land covering three islands and lagoons will be reclaimed; 90 hectares in Hithadhoo, 75 hectares in Maradhoo-Feydhoo, 38 hectares in Hulhu-Meedhoo, and 25 hectares of land in the lagoon.

The project is financed within the USD 800 million line-of-credit extended by the government of India to Maldives through India’s EXIM Bank. USD 200 million out of the total alone, has been allocated for development projects in Addu City.
