Maldives Police Service (MPS) has begun investigating the injury of an individual during the time of his arrest, a week after he was arrested.
While the 25-year-old man was arrested for threatening two police officers and damaging their property on 29 November, the officers were not aware of an injury while he was being taken into police custody.
However, a bone injury to the man’s finger was discovered following an X-Ray and tests after he was taken to the hospital for a flu treatment on 6 December.
Following this, police revealed that they are looking into the matter to see if it was caused by negligence on the part of officers who had arrested the 25-year-old.He has since been released from police custody.
Police’s Professional Standard Command has since reached out to the man’s family as well.
