Maldives and Finland to sign air transport agreement

Diplomatic relations between Maldives and Finland was established in 1984

Maldives and Finland are to sign an air transport agreement this month.

The agreement is to be signed during Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid’s visit to the European nation, from 28-29 November.

Shahid will also meet his Finnish counterpart, Pekka Haavisto during the trip, as well as the country’s Education Minister Li Andersson; Haavisto is to host the visit.

While the foreign ministers are to sign the air transport agreement, they will also hold discussions on various topics including the current state of bilateral relations between both nations. They will also talk on the Finland International School in the Maldives, which was launched in January 2019.

While Finland recognized the Maldives on 15th October 1965, diplomatic relations were established diplomatic relations on 10th August 1984.

Vice President Faisal Naseem traveled to Finland in March.
