The Judicial Service Commission (JSC)’s investigative committee has postponed Supreme Court Justice Adam Mohamed Abdulla's disciplinary hearing.
The committee had previously scheduled the next hearing for 10:30am on 4th November, after giving him a final opportunity to appoint legal representation.
However, the hearing has been rescheduled to accommodate an official trip which the justice had scheduled prior. It will be rescheduled after he returns from the trip.
Adam has appointed former Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed and former chancellor of the Judicial Academy, Ahmed Majid, as his defence attorney.
However, the investigative committee noted a conflict of interest in appointing Jameel, who they noted is currently a defendant in an ongoing Supreme Court case where Justice Adam is one of the presiding judges.
The second attorney at Wednesday's hearing, Majid did not show up for the next one. He did not inform his client or the committee.
At the meeting, Justice Adam told those presiding the hearing that he had difficulties in obtaining a lawyer, claiming that the reason for this is that the committee "might just reject the next one as well."
The hearing concluded after giving the justice a final opportunity to appoint a lawyer.
