Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) has rescued two Maldivians onboard a capsized boat off Haodigala in Gaaf Dhaal atoll.

The boat carrying cargo was reported to have capsized a little past 10pm on Thursday and a team of MNDF Southern Area officers was dispatched immediately.

Further, MNDF revealed that the boat capsized en-route to Gadhdhoo from Thinadhoo in the same atoll.

This comes at a time MNDF has cautioned sea travelers to be wary while traveling due to rough seas followed by squally weather conditions.

Maldives Meteorological Services predicted squally rain showers and thunderstorms to prevail over most of the country with rough seas for the past few days, and so, cautioned sea travelers to plan their trips ahead, after taking the turbulent weather conditions into account.

Travelers are also urged to refrain from exceeding the weight limit for carrying cargo and goods on-board vessels while traveling, following the risk of sea incidents due to rough seas.

Vessel owners have also been urged to maintain their boats well and be well equipped to face any incidents that may happen.

In the event a sea incident surfaces, travelers are required to contact toll-free number, 191.
