It has been revealed that seven government officials and seven judges had received funds through Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), where millions were stolen from the state.
This was revealed during a joint press conference held today by the relevant investigative authorities, on Thursday evening.
During the press conference, the president of the Presidential Commission on Corruption and Asset Recovery, Ahmed As’ad disclosed that the money funnelled through the MMPRC graft was spread out throughout the government, including heads of independent institutions, members of parliament, judges, military officers, and journalists.
According to As’ad, MMPRC graft money was used to influence certain dealings, including the 18th parliamentary election primaries, as well as the parliamentary elections, and to transfer members from one party to another.
Additionally, members of parliament were influenced to change their vote with the money from the MMPRC graft.
The following parties received from the MMPRC graft:
- 44 members from the 18th parliament
- 16 members from the 19th parliament
- five heads of independent institutions
- seven officials from the current administration
- seven judges
- 23 security service officers
