Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s Maldives Reform Movement (MRM) is to hold its inaugural assembly next month.
The newly established party was given the permission to hold the assembly, after submitting the required 3,000 membership forms, on October 2.
MRM’s secretary general Abdul Aleem told RaajjeMV that the party’s inaugural assembly will be held at Dharubaaruge on November 7, with 300 members.
During the assembly, MRM is to pass its procedures, flag and logo design, as well as appoint a temporary council.
While the party was founded by Gayoom, his daughter and current Heritage Minister Yumna Maumoon is handling its operations.
Submitting the membership forms to the Elections Commission in August, Yumna said that MRM "will always work to reform the country and join hands with other parties in order to work for the greater good of the nation."
