A Maldivian Woman has won the Council Election held in New Zealand to elect members to over 90 cities, on Saturday.

Shazly Rasheed competed for the Hutt City Council, which has a population of 104,700.

Alongside Shazly, 11 other members were elected in the Saturday polls.

While she has been residing in New Zealand for over 20 years, she revealed that he garnered fourth highest number of votes among all candidates who competed.

Following her win, Shazly was quick to extend her heartfelt gratitude to those who helped her reach her triumphant win.

“To the people who cleaned my signs without me asking, to our clients at Shazly Experience for their awesome love and support, to my team at Shazly Experience who kept the forte going in my absence, I am so proud of you. To my friends Dee and Josette thank you for all your love and to my family for the love and support and encouraging me to stand for what I believe in, and to my two boys my biggest fans who have truly impressed me. Finally my husband Ismail I couldn’t have gone out every day and night without your support.”

Shazly promises to bring a good change to the city and wishes for Lower Hutt to be inclusive, safe and the best place to bring up families and start businesses, being an entrepreneur herself.
