Alifushi island in Raa atoll is in dire need of infrastructural development, states the island councilors.
As part of his ongoing tour across Raa atoll, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih met with councilors and senior institutional representatives from Alifushi on Wednesday at the island’s Health Center, and inquired on the requirements and concerns facing the island community.
Further discussions were held on future development plans for the island.
The government was praised for proposing amendments to the Decentralization Act which is believed to pave way for councilors to play a major role in the progress of their constituencies, during the meeting.
Several concerns and issues surfacing for the growth of the community were also shared, such as an upgrade to the island’s health services, need to develop facilities and services in the education and utilities and other infrastructural developments.
Sharing details of projects marked for the island within the scope of this year’s budget, Solih expressed that the pressing issues will be taken up with relevant ministries in order to tackle the issues at hand.
The President began his two-day trip across the atoll on Wednesday, his first stop being in Meedhoo island.
