Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has completed the dredging work for the development of the Hoarafushi Airport.
In a tweet posted on Monday, MTCC revealed that dredging for the airport development was completed on 30 August.
The tweet reveals that 345,500 square meters of land were reclaimed under the project.
The land reclamation project for the airport began on 25 March 2019.
While a total of MVR 64 million was allocated for the airport development, linking Maafinolhu and Hoarafushi was also included in the plan.
MTCC revealed that the project value is at MVR 198,390,988.
MTCC was contracted with the reclamation of 16 hectares of land and the construction of a 1.2-kilometer runway.
Initially planned to be built in Maafinolhu by the previous administration, the Hoarafushi Airport is expected to pave way for easier travel within the atoll.
Once the airport is developed in Hoarafushi, which has a population of over 3,000, atoll residents will be able to travel between Ihavandhoo, Thuraakunu and Uligamu.
