President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih is scheduled to give an address at the United Nations (UN).
Speaking to RaajjeMV, a Foreign Ministry official said that the President will give his address at the UN general assembly, to be held from September 17 to 30.
The official said that the President’s address will be on human rights, environment protection, and politics.
President’s Office spokesperson Ibrahim Hood said that President Solih will give his address on the morning of September 24 (New York time) and that he will be one of the first dignitaries to give his address, when previously Maldives is the last to take the stage at the general assemblies. He added that President Solih’s departure date will be announced soon.
The UN general assembly is an opportunity for Maldives to develop ties with other countries, which is a pledge of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
This is the first time in six years that a Maldives president will be giving an address at the UN, since the previous president, Abdulla Yameen, was not invited to give an address.
