National Security, Foreign Relations Committee meetings to take place during Majlis recess

Sittings for the second session concluded on Thursday

Meetings will focus on investigations into a commission report on Rilwan's murder

Meetings of the committee on National Security & Foreign Relations are to proceed despite Parliament going into recess.

At the beginning of the last sitting of the second session, Speaker Mohamed Nasheed stated that although Parliament is going into recess, it has been decided that the National Security & Foreign Relations committee meetings will proceed.

The meetings follow the compilation of a report by the presidential inquiry commission of murders and enforced disappearances. Said report is to be investigated by the parliament committee during the recess period.

The commission on murders and enforced disappearances compiled the report on abducted and murdered Minivan News Journalist Ahmed Rilwan handed it over to the committee, on Sunday.

While the meetings are to be focused on investigating Rilwan’s murder, the commission earlier confirmed that he was abducted, taken onboard a boat and killed at sea by a group of religious extremists.

Commission President Husnu Al Suood revealed that they have documented whom the boat belongs to and under whose instructions the homicide was carried out.
