New President appointed to the Employment Tribunal
 
The Employment Tribunal was established in December 2008, in accordance to the Employment Act 2008
 
Ahmed Shifau was appointed in May 2018 and he resigned in 2019

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has appointed a new President to the Employment Tribunal.

Mohamed Zahir was appointed as the tribunal’s President.

He had been serving at the tribunal previously as a member.

This appointment comes following the resignation of Ahmed Shifau, who was appointed during the administration of former President Abdulla Yameen in May 2018.

The Employment Tribunal was established in December 2008 pursuant to the Employment Act 2008. It stated that the Employment Tribunal is composed of seven members, appointed to the post by the president. Amongst the seven, two are designated by the President of the Maldives as the President and Vice President of the Tribunal.
