Following the death of five locals in a sea incident on Thursday, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has extended condolences to the families of the deceased.

Extending his heartfelt condolences via twitter, Solih expressed his grief and encouraged families of the deceased to be brave.

Maldives National Defense Force earlier revealed that five locals died in a sea incident where a speedboat travelling from Nolhivaranfaru in Haa Dhaal atoll overturned en route Hanimaadhoo in the same atoll.

Killed in the incident were three women, one child and one man while three are reportedly in serious condition with the condition of two others, reported stable.

Hanimaadhoo Health Center did not reveal further details of the deceased, however, RaajjeTV understands that deceased are five members of the same family, cited by Hanimaadhoo council.

MNDF had received the report of the incident at around 12:25 pm on Thursday.
