Jumhooree Party (JP) will continue to stay in the government coalition until the day it is kicked out, says party leader Qasim Ibrahim.
Speaking at an event on Monday night to welcome senior officials of former President Abdulla Yameen’s administration to JP, Qasim said his current goal is to increase the party membership.
The JP leader said that his party will always work for the government of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, as long as it does not undermine the Constitution and Islam, and that the party does not wish to leave the coalition.
He said that JP will continue its efforts to increase membership until the 2023 elections and will also prepare for the council elections. He also said that, during parliament recess, he will begin his travels and open JP offices in all islands.
Qasim said that JP members in the cabinet and other government administrations should also work to increase the party membership.
Addressing criticism over the speed of the current government’s work, Qasim said that he does not believe that the government is slow when compared to the other administrations, which had usually begun its projects in earnest after two years.
He urged the public to be patient and allow the President to fulfill his responsibilities in his five years.
