Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has said that the situation between Pakistan and India needs to be resolved peacefully.

Minister Shahid said this during a phone call with Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi to discuss the situation between India and Pakistan.

The foreign ministry statedthat the Pakistani Minister briefed Minister Shahid on the recent developments in Jammu and Kashmir and conveyed the views of the Government of Pakistan on the decision of the Government of India to repeal Article 370 of the Indian Constitution.

Minister Shahid thanked Minister Qureshi for the telephone call and stated that both Pakistan and India are close friends and bilateral partners of the Maldives and stressed the importance of resolving differences between countries through peaceful means. He also said that Maldives viewed the decision taken by India regarding Article 370 of the Indian Constitution as an internal matter.

Minister Shahid assured Minister Qureshi that Maldives will remain a close friend of Pakistan and continue to cooperate in advancing interests on areas of mutual concern, bilaterally, regionally, and internationally.
