The Ministry of Planning and Infrastructure has stated that the Alif Alif Ukulhas reclamation project will begin in October.

During President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s visit to Ukulhas in December of last year, the President vowed that the reclamation project would be placed in the 2019 budget.

Speaking to RaajjeMV, Ukulhas Council President Shaukath Ibrahim said that the residents are concerned over the lack of land, and that housing is the biggest issue in the island, adding that they stopped giving out land 25 years ago.

The Ukulhas Council President assured that the reclamation project will begin later this year and will add 11 hectares of land to the island.

He also said that they had received 150 applications for land after their announcement in 2019 and that 120 of the applicants had fulfilled the requirements. However, their land use plan only allowed them to give out 30 plots of land measuring 1,200 square feet.

President Solih had received the vast majority of votes in Ukulhas during last year’s election.
