Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s Parliamentary Group (PG) has rejected the proposal to form a super committee to interview, grade, and dismiss appointees to independent institutions.

Interviewing, grading, and dismissing appointees to independent institutions is currently the responsibility of the parliament’s independent institutions committee.

Speaker and MDP leader Mohamed Nasheed proposed to form a super committee to handle these tasks, to involve all political parties.

Nasheed proposed the amendment to the parliament regulation on August 4, and RaajjeMV understands that MDP’s PG members were split on the issue in their meeting the next day and made no decision.

At the PG meeting on Monday, members voted to reject the amendment.

Independent institutions committee chair Rozaina Adam said they will continue to handle appointing people to independent institutions, along with other relevant committees.
