Former Member of Parliament for the Funadhoo constituency, Mohamed Shahid, has stated that the Maldivian public no longer believes President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu will fulfill his pledges.
Speaking on RaajjeTV’s "Vaudhunaama" program, Shahid stated that whenever President Muizzu pledges to undertake a task, the outcome invariably results in the opposite. Shahid further noted that the Maldivian public now recognizes this pattern.
Shahid highlighted that a significant portion of the projects initiated in Funadhoo during former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's administration has been completed. He noted that these initiatives included the establishment of a water system, the expansion of the sewerage network, a ferry terminal, a new hospital building, a football stadium, and the construction of a mosque. He further stated that the majority of these projects are currently nearing completion.
He further noted that while many Maldivians believe successive governments have implemented island projects based on political affiliations, this is not the philosophy of the MDP. Shahid emphasized that under an MDP administration, development is delivered to every island based on its needs, without discriminating between small and large communities.
In this regard, Shahid stated that projects initiated by previous administrations which had remained incomplete were successfully finalized during the MDP government's tenure.
Take, for example, the Funadhoo Airport project. When the administration that took office in 2013 concluded and the MDP government began its term, we did not halt the project simply because it was initiated by the previous government. Instead, we accelerated the work and brought it to a successful completion.Mohamed Shahid
During the MDP administration, the consistent delivery of services led the public to believe that the pledges made by a President were truthful. However, Shahid noted that this trust has been broken under President Muizzu.
The citizens of our constituency and the entire nation now believe that if President Muizzu makes a statement, it will not be fulfilled. They are convinced that if the President commits to a specific course of action, the outcome will invariably be the opposite.Mohamed Shahid
Furthermore, Shahid expressed concern over the lack of progress on any projects, noting that despite President Muizzu’s assurances that initiatives launched by both the previous and current administrations would proceed, they remain stalled.
