Finance Minister Ibrahim Ameer has said that the supplementary budget will be proposed to parliament this week.
The Minister said that they will hold a press conference after proposing the budget, to answer questions.
At last year’s parliamentary budget committee meeting, Finance Minister Ibrahim Ameer said that a supplementary budget would be proposed after drafting a master plan for national development.
The parliament approved a state budget of MVR 30.2 billion for this year.
After the government’s decision to propose a supplementary budget, the opposition demanded an explanation from the administration after claiming that the money in this year’s state budget had run out.
Earlier speaking to RaajjeMV, President’s Office spokesperson Ibrahim Hood said the supplementary budget was proposed to include aid from foreign countries and international organizations in the projects. He also highlighted the need to include the cost of the government pledge to provide a degree education for students abroad in the budget.
The Finance Ministry has not yet disclosed the projects included in the supplementary budget.
