Police have fined 15 taxi drivers for violating regulations.
The police traffic management department’s statistics show that the 15 taxi drivers were fined between August 3 and 9.
Six taxi drivers have been fined for taking higher than the fare set by the Transport Authority, and the police began an operation to penalize such drivers on August 7.
Transport Authority stated that drivers who take higher fares will be fined MVR 750 and that it is illegal to charge extra to carry luggage in the trunk.
Last week’s police statistics also show that eight drivers had their licenses withheld due to accidents, 28 were fined for violating traffic regulations, and 41 were fined for speeding.
