Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) had advised caution over the reports of missing vessels received by the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC).

MNDF stated that they have received reports of numerous incidents at sea in the last 24 hours due to the current rainy weather.

The incidents include vessels being grounded, or being flooded and sinking, as well as vessels drifting off to sea.

MNDF advised boat captains, crewmen, and travelers to be aware of the latest weather updates before making travel arrangements and to check whether lifejackets, water pumps, and other safety equipment on board are working.

In a recent incident, the Coast Guard searched for a missing supply boat which had been docked at a Gaafu Alif atoll resort. The boat was found near Hirufushi in the same atoll.

MNDF has urged people to report incidents at sea by calling the Coast Guard’s toll-free number 191.
