Seven children found after escaping from Hulhumalé orphanage
A missing persons report was filed at the police early Saturday morning
All seven children were found safe, and have been returned to the orphanage
No other details have been disclosed

Seven children that escaped from the orphanage in Hulhumalé have been found and returned.

Fiyavathi is run under the Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services, and was opened in February 2016.

The ministry’s media official said that that the seven children are to have escaped from the shelter early Saturday morning.

Police said that this was reported at around 7am, and that its officers had located these children near Tree Top Hospital in the capital’s suburban district; they are to have been sitting on a fence there.

Police added that none of the children had been harmed, but did not disclose any other details in the case including how seven children were able to escape from the orphanage.

While children escaping from the state shelters is not uncommon, a recent such case froma shelter in Villimaléled to immense criticism against the gender ministry.
