Flying school aircraft crashes into sea, near Shangri-La
The aircraft was being operated by a Maldivian student at the time of crash, with an Indian as an instructor

An aircraft from the Asian Academic of Aeronautics, in southernmost Addu City, crashed into the sea on Friday.

The aircraft is to have crashed near Shangri-La Villingili Maldives, and officers of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) were dispatched to the scene immediately.

MNDF said that the aircraft has already sunk over 6 meters into the sea.

Addu City Mayor, Abdulla Sodhiq told RaajjeMV that the boat crashed into the sea “as the pilots were attempting emergency landing due to a technical issue.”

However, he did not know the exact technical issue that occurred.

The aircraft was being operated by a Maldivian student at the time of crash, with an Indian pilot as an instructor.

Both pilots were treated at the center at Shingri-La and released shortly after, Sodhiq said that neither has sustained serious injuries.

A team from Sri Lanka is to arrive in Addu on Saturday, to look into the cause of accident.
