Maldivian authorities seized 2.5kg of drugs in two operations earlier this week.
A total of three suspects were arrested in the operations, while attempting to smuggle cocaine and hashish oil in to the country.
In the first operation, on Monday, Maldives Customs said that a Maldivian man that arrived from Chennai, India was checked because of “suspicious activities.”
Noting that suspected narcotics was found in the man’s bag, police said that it tested positive for hashish oil and weighed 395 grams.
The second operation was held on Wednesday, where a Costa Rican woman was checked apprehended from Velana International Airport.
Noting that the 35-year-old arrived in the Maldives at around 4:26pm via Doha, police said that she was checked after customs officers noticed suspicious packages inside her luggage during scanning.
While police revealed that the five packets weighed 2.1 kilograms, Maldives Customs said that they tested positive for cocaine.
Furthermore, police arrested a 41-year-old in relation to the case, from the guesthouse in Hulhumalé at around 11:35pm on Wednesday.
Maldives Customs said that a total of 2.5 kilograms were seized in the two operations, and that its estimated street value is MVR 7,480,000.
Police's Drug Enforcement Department continue to investigate the cases.
