Developing a hospital at the health center in R Maduvvari will cost MVR 25 million, says Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen.

Minister Ameen said this in parliament on Monday while responding to Maduvvari MP Adam Shareef’s questions on the progress of the project.

The Minister said that the project will be completed 12 months after it begins and that they are seeking a contractor to make the B.O.Q. for the redesign of the health center. He said that they will figure out how many floors the hospital will have once they complete the B.O.Q.

Regarding the development of the R Meedhoo health center to a hospital, he said that they are in the process of evaluating the design of the building and that the project will be completed 18 months after it begins.

He said MVR 4 million has been allocated for the project in this year’s budget, and that they will figure the total cost after the design evaluation, and estimated it to be MVR 80 million.

Responding to a question from Naifaru MP Ahmed Shiyam, Minister Ameen said that the previous administration had ordered health centers to run 24 hours a day near the last election, without providing the budget, employees, and resources.

Minister Ameen said that the health center had to face obstacles due to neglect in the past five years and that pouring money into the problem would not solve it. He also said that the current government’s long-term plan is to provide health services whenever people need it.
