Five MDP members receive MNDF protection following threats

Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has begun providing security for five lawmakers.
RaajjeMV understands that the five are to have requested protection after a credible source had informed them of threats directed towards them.
All five are from main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
While they are to have requested security from the parliament administration, Secretary General Fathmath Niusha said that the request was forwarded MNDF.
She added that the defence force has since begun providing security to all five lawmakers.
Article 105 (a) of the Maldives Constitution states that “the security of the House of People’s Majlis, all property attached thereto and all offices and facilities where its work is conducted shall be protected by the security services of the State,” while (b) notes that “the security services of the State shall ensure the protection and safety of all members of the People’s Majlis.”
