The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has decided to investigate Criminal Court Chief Judge Ahmed Hailam, as well as an additional complaint against Supreme Court Justice Abdulla Didi.
The decision was reached at its 50th meeting on Wednesday, where all 10 members were present.
At the meeting, the members agreed to send Judge Hailam complaint to a disciplinary committee for review, and forwarded the complaint against Didi to the investigative committee formed to inspect the five other allegations against him.
However, JSC did not disclose details of the complaints.
The commission has also decided to look into an additional complaint against Chief Magistrate Luayyu Ibrahim from the Gaafu Alifu Dhaandhoo Magistrate Court. While a sub-committee has already been formed to investigate four other cases against Luayyu, the new complaint has also been forwarded to this committee.
In addition, JSC has received three complaints against the Mohamed Mausoom, the chief magistrate at the Haa Alifu atoll judicial district. A sub-committee has been formed to investigate the complaints. The three members are; deputy Masthooru Husny, Hisaan Hussain and Abdul Rauf Ibrahim.
JSC further said that they had discussed on ways for an individual to withdraw a complaint against a member of the judiciary, including that it will continue with cases where investigations have already been launched. However, further discussions are to be held if the commission has not made a decision to proceed with a case.
The Judicial Service Commission continues to investigate complaints against a number of judges, including from the Criminal Court, High Court and Supreme Court. As such, the commission recently passed to issue a warning to three justices at the Supreme Court -Chief Justice Ahmed Abdulla Didi and Justices Abdulla Areef and Adam Mohamed Abdulla- after concluding an investigation.
