Maldives is to celebrate the International Day of Friendship on Tuesday evening.
The Ministry of Home Affairs revealed that the activity will be held on the outlying ring road “Boduthakurufaan Magu” and will begin at 04:45pm.
Locals, along with foreigners residing in the country will join the event, said the ministry, urging everyone to join in attire representing the colors of the Maldives flag.
Miniature flags will also be distributed at the event, which is being held for the first time in Maldives.
The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has banned vehicles from operating on the ring road at the time the activity is scheduled to proceed. As such, vehicles will be prohibited on the outlying road from 04:30pm to 6pm.
Vehicles to be authorized on the outlying road during the said time are ambulances, public transport buses as well as the vehicles used to transport travelers.
The World Friendship Day is marked globally on different dates annually. This year, the asian region marks the day on 30 July. Exchange of gifts like cards, jewelry and flowers is a popular tradition among the people on the occasion.
