Governor of Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) Ahmed Naseer has resigned.
A trusted source told RaajjeMV that Naseer resigned at a staff meeting on Wednesday.
President’s Office Spokesperson Ibrahim Hood confirmed to RaajjeMV that they have received Naseer’s resignation letter, which did not disclose the reason for the decision.
Former Head of MMA’s Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) Abdulla Ashraf has accused Naseer of influencing the FIU by expressing disapproval when the FIU filed a police case after a large amount of money, related to the MMPRC embezzlement, was transferred to former President Abdulla Yameen’s account, and requesting the unit to refrain from filing police cases on specific individuals.
At a meeting with the independent institutions committee, Naseer denied requesting any MMA department to conduct investigations into specific individuals in a particular way and made numerous accusations against Ashraf, including that he had instructed a bot to leak information from the FIU database on Telegram Messenger.
