Officers must always maintain professionalism when confronting criminals: Minister

He said that the institution will deal with things as a family, as long as officers act within the laws and regulations

Police officers must maintain professionalism when confronting criminals, says Home Minister Imran Abdulla.

The minister said this at an event held to mark Police Memorial Day on Tuesday morning, where he highlighted that the institution has always faced obstacles in their work.

Noting that officers have to confront criminals in fulfilling their work, Imran said that it is not possible to please everyone when fulfilling their responsibilities.

However, the minister emphasized that officers must always maintain professional standards when confronting them.

He added that the police service will deal with any issues that may arise while on the job, as a family, and “as long as officers act within the laws and regulations.”

Commissioner of Police, Mohamed “MC” Hamed also spoke at Tuesday morning’s ceremony.

In a tweet sent out to mark Police Memorial Day, Commissioner Hameed noted that the day is about “remembering the five brave officers who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.”

"The Police Service is an essential social institution in a democracy. It plays a fundamental role in protecting our freedoms”
Police Commissioner, Mohamed Hameed
