Former Legal Affairs Minister Azima Shakoor has accused the government of trying to silencer her through ‘trumped up’ charges.
She said this in a Facebook post after receiving the documents on the case in which she is charged with aiding and abetting money laundering.
In the Facebook post, Azima Shakoor said that she has been working in public service since the age of 16 and have been in the cabinet of three governments, granting her success and many responsibilities. She said that she could have become wealthy if she wanted but refused to accept money through corruption or bribes.
She said there is no evidence for the allegation that she has received financial gains and that she is being prosecuted for doing her job.
Azima is charged with aiding former President Abdulla Yameen in money laundering in relation to the MMPRC embezzlement case. She is also charged with providing a false statement to investigative authorities.
