Fuvahmulah City’s youth will be rallying on July 8 over the lack of road development.
At the rally, participants will be voicing their concern over the difficulties faced by residents due to the roads being flooded during rainy weather.
The youth are set to rally in front of the Fuvahmulah City Council with banners and placards next week.
Izzath, one of the organizers, told RaajjeMV that the rally is not an anti-government protest but is to pressure the government to quickly solve the difficulties they face.
Izzath said that the poor state of the roads makes it difficult to transport people to the health center and the school and that they want to solve this issue for the drivers.
He said that they are also concerned that work is yet to begin on road development despite it being part of the government’s 100-day agenda and that they would not hold the rally if the government shows a timeframe for development.
Noting that they are happy to see that Fuvahmulah’s link road development is ongoing, Izzath said that their immediate need is the development of the inner roads and that while the government notified them that the project will begin upon the conclusion of the link road development, they want the government to solve the problems in the inner roads first.
The Fuvahmulah City link road development project began during the previous administration and was restarted by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
