Maldivian authorities have resumed work to serve a court notice to the former Legal Affairs Minister at the President’s Office, Azima Shakoor.
While Azima is accused of aiding and abetting money laundering, her case has been at a standstill since being charged in February.
According to the Department of Judicial Administration (DJA), the case was at a halt as Azima had been out of the country.
However, RaajjeMV understands that Azima returned about a month ago, and is residing in the capital’s suburban district Hulhumalé.
DJA’s media official, Faisal Adam said that the criminal court has been working to serve her the notice.
Further noting that Azima’s case was filed this year, Faisal added that there are bigger cases submitted prior and that there have been delays in court proceedings due to lack of judges.
However, he did not a disclose a date in which they resumed work in the case.
Azima was charged with aiding in money laundering in February this year, for allegedly assisting former President Abdulla Yameen. She had left the country around that time.
The former president has been charged with money laundering, and the preliminary hearing in the case was held in April.
