Parliament will closely watch over JSC’s work: MP Hassan Latheef

West Henveiru MP Hassan Latheef has said that the parliament will closely watch over the work of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).

Speaking on RaajjeTV’s Fala Surukhee show on Thursday night, the chairperson of main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) said that JSC began its work in earnest after the current administration came to power.

MP Hassan Latheef said that, JSC’s previous action of keeping their work secret has been reversed and that their work is now open to public scrutiny.

He said that, just as JSC has the responsibility to oversee the work of the judiciary, the parliament has the responsibility to oversee the JSC and disclose their findings to the public, adding that the parliament is willing to summon and question the JSC members when necessary.

Regarding the parliament, he praised the hard work of MPs in progressing the work of the 19th parliament in a fast and organized manner.

He also said that MDP plans its work carefully, thereby strengthening its branches and agenda, and that the party is well respected because of the diligence of its members. He added that their immediate work is to fulfill its manifesto and parliamentary agenda through the parliament.
