JSC seeks two new Criminal Court judges

JSC decided to add two more seats to the judges’ bench of court on Wednesday

Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has made the announcement for those interested in the posts of the newly added seats on the judges’ bench at the Criminal Court, to come forth.

Following JSC’s decision to add two more seats to the judges’ bench of court on Wednesday, the commission made the announcement on Thursday, requesting interested individuals to come forth by 1pm on 11 July.

Some of the qualifications that applicants must have include being over 25 years of age and having a level one degree in Islamic Shariah and Law as well as having at least two years of experience in the field.

Criminal Court judges receive a basic salary of MVR 30,000 with a living allowance of MVR 15,000 and a risk allowance of MVR 3,300. They will also receive medical insurance and phone allowances as allocated by the People’s Majlis.

JSC’s Director Hassan Zaheen revealed on Wednesday that the Supreme Court had requested the commission to increase the number of judges at the Criminal Court.

Currently, 10 judges preside the Criminal Court bench.
