President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed have joined main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s 14-year anniversary celebration.

The event was held at MDP headquarters on Wednesday morning.

To mark the occasion, President Solih hoisted the Maldives national flag while MDP leader Nasheed hoisted the party flag.

Those who joined the event include many MDP members, cabinet ministers, and some members of the public.

MDP was registered in 2005 and is the first political party formed in Maldives. Its stated goal is the promotion of human rights and democracy in the country.

MDP became the main ruling party after winning the 2018 presidential election. The party also received supermajority in the parliamentary election and currently has more than 50,000 members.
