Parliament’s committee on independent institutions has received a motion to dismiss Hassan Luthufee, the President of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

At Wednesday’s committee meeting, Velidhoo MP Mohamed Abdulla Shafeeq submitted the motion, which was backed by Gan MP Mohamed Wisam.

ACC chief Luthufee has been accused of helping former President Abdulla Yameen escape his money laundering charge by trying to keep Yameen’s bank account from being frozen and allow the one million US dollars Yameen received from MMPRC to be transferred to an escrow account during ACC’s investigation.

The police service has confirmed that it is investigating a money laundering case involving Luthufee.

Also, an ACC employee has said that he has been absent from work since February 10 but is still accepting full pay.

Luthufee was also absent at the committee’s meeting with ACC members, who said that they have not been in contact with him.
