People’s Majlis has on Wednesday passed a bill giving authority to the two commissions established by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
67 MPs voted in favour of the bill, while one abstained from the vote.
The two commissions, established on Solih’s first day on office, are; Commission on Murders and Enforced Disappearances and Commission on Corruption and Asset Recovery.
The bill was proposed by Alifushi constituency MP Mohamed Rasheed Hussain last week.
It was accepted after three days of deliberations, with a number of lawmakers speaking in its favor.
President Solih had established both commissions on November 17.
MP Rasheed had proposed the bill granting authority to the commissions to the 18 parliament as well. Despite being submitted a number of times; it had failed to take a vote on the matter by the time the tenure ended in April.
