The Department of Judicial Administration (DJA) has decided to form the “Maldives Judges Association.”
DJA announced this via a statement on Wednesday, adding that the decision to form the association was reached at its meeting on May 21. It added that all necessary documents to form the association has been submitted to the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment.
The association is being formed under Article 10 of the Judges Act, with the aim of protecting judge’s independence and privileges.
While the judicial watchdog is to form a judges’ association, there has been immense backlash over the recent actions of courts.
