A man who swam away to escape the police on Sunday night have been found.
The police service stated that he is suspected of transporting drugs on a ferry travelling from GA Kanduhulhudhoo to GDh Thinadhoo.
He was found in the woods of nearby Maavaaralu on Wednesday morning, stated the police, adding that nothing incriminating have been found on his person.
The man swam away to Maavaaralu after he was informed that the police were seeking a man allegedly transporting drugs on a ferry from Kanduhulhudhoo following a tip-off.
Three other men who are related to the suspect had gotten on a small boat to look for him, but after their boat capsized, one of them swam to a nearby island and the other two were rescued by a passing boat.
The island’s council president Ahmed Shaheem has said that the suspect is between 30 to 35 years of age and has a criminal record related to drugs.
