Police in search of alleged drug suspect who went missing near Maavaralu
Three friends had gone in search of him on a dinghy
Council alleges him to be involved in drug trafficking

Maldives Police Service (MPS) has revealed that they are in search of an alleged drug suspect who had fled on a ferry he was allegedly smuggling drugs through.

RaajjeMV understands that police had been tipped off that the man was smuggling drugs from Gadhdhoo to Kanduhulhudhoo, Gaaf Alif.

However, the man had jumped off the ferry and swum off near Maavaralu island when he knew that he was being located.

RaajjeMV also understands that three of the man’s acquaintances had set off on a dinghy to find the man.

However, police revealed that the dinghy had overturned on the way and one had swum to safety and with the help of police officers stationed in Maavarulu island along with the island residents had located the other two.

Island Council President Ahmed Shaheem stated the ferry had set off from Gadhdhoo to Kanduhulhudhoo and that the missing man is aged between 30 and 35. The man allegedly has a record of drug trafficking.

The crew onboard the ferry had stated that they believe the man had resurfaced somewhere in the region.

Police with the help of the island residents are currently searching for the man.
