Maldives Police Service (MPS) has arrested five individuals in a drug bust in capital city Malé.
As part of their ongoing operation to bring an end to drug trafficking in the country, police on Wednesday raided a house in Maafannu-ward of the capital city.
The entrance to “Fashion Mead” was secured with a padlock, RaajjeMV understands.
Arrested were two 21-year-olds, a 19-year-old, a 47-year-old and a 33-year-old. All of them are Maldivian.
Officers confiscated 11 rubber packets and four pieces of cellophane containing suspected narcotics during the raid.
Police media official further revealed that the house was a large-scale drug trafficking hub.
In addition, while the house had iron doors, they had also placed security at the entrance. The house also had foul remarks aimed at the police, scribbled across walls.
Drug trafficking cases in the country have been on the rise of late.
