Maldives elected Chair of UNWTO Commission for South Asia

Statistics show that the highest tourist arrivals in the last 13 years was recorded in April this year

Maldives has been elected Chair of World Tourism Organization UNWTO for South Asia.

In a tweet on Tuesday, Tourism Minister Ali Waheed confirmed that Maldives will be the Chair of the UNWTO Commission for South Asia for the forthcoming biennium.

The Minister highlighted that the last time Maldives was elected Chair was from 1995 to 1997.

UNWTO’s South Asian members include eight other countries.

The Tourism Ministry has stated that Minister of State Ahmed Solih delivered a letter from Minister Waheed to UNWTO Secretary General Zurab Pololikashvili inviting him to visit Maldives and strengthen the collaboration and relationship with UNWTO.

Tourist arrivals have been steadily increasing each year, and Minister Waheed has begun work to further advertise Maldives internationally.
