Newly appointed UNDP Resident Representative, Akiko Fujii has presented her Letter of Appointment to the Maldives Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid.

During the follow-up meeting at the ministry on Tuesday, FM Shahid had welcomed the new UNDP Resident Representative to the Maldives, congratulating her on the commencement of her term.

Expressing his appreciation for the United Nation’s role in the development process of the small-island nation, FM Shahid had discussed ways to further enhance the collaboration between both governments to implement the Maldives government’s “ambitious” development agenda.

FM Shahid also expressed appreciation to the UN for extended support in the development in areas such as human development, including poverty eradication, climate and disaster risk resilience, as well as democracy and governance.

Further, the minister assured Fujii that the government of Maldives will continue to work closely with her and extend “full cooperation” in executing her duties.

During the meeting, Fujii had thanked FM Shahid for the trust and confidence he has placed in her and the confidence the Maldives government has in the UN system.

The meeting was accompanied by Ambassador-at-large, Asim Ahmed, Director at the ministry, Mariyam Reesha, UNDP Assistant Resident Representative Mariyam Nazra and the Communications Officer of UNDP Makhdhooma Nazim.
