Maldives Police Service (MPS) has arrested a woman for attempting to smuggle drugs into Maafushi prison.

As part of their ongoing efforts to eliminate drug smuggling in the country, officers of the police station in Maafushi and the police Intelligence Unit conducted an operation last week, after being tipped off that the woman had been smuggling drugs during her familial visits.

The 34-year-old woman was arrested last Thursday under a court order and officers had confiscated two packs suspected to contain narcotics, upon searching her.

The woman has since been remanded by 15 days by the Maafushi Magistrate Court.
