Maldives Police Service is investigating a child abuse case, involving a nine-year-old.

Police revealed that the investigation was launched on 10 May, following reports that the child was being abused by two of her elder brothers.

Suspects behind the abuse are aged 13 and 16.

Police are yet to reveal whether the suspects have been taken into custody.

Authorities are investigating the case with the help of the gender ministry's Family and Children Service Centre in the atoll.

The Gender Ministry has confirmed that they too have taken on such a case.

Further, police asserted that they take such cases of child abuse very seriously and that they highly prioritize such cases.
